If you happen to miss or hit the sniper but not 1 shot kill him, backing up into the trees, gives you cover from the sniper. The bandits on the ground can't see you because of the hill and trees. I forget the direction to approach from, but its the hill side which has pretty good tree coverage I find is best to get him. The second I miss, however, he instantly knows where it came from and 360 noscopes me from his stationary position.
